Well, I went down there, armed against the fire ants with bug spray
and a garden fork. I sprayed the gardening fork, then my shoes, and
set to work. But the whole rest stop looked different than the last
time I was there. It had a very 'manicured' look about it. It had
been mowed, edged, weedeaten and all spiffed up. The cement pillar
even looked moved a little. I scraped behind and under it, then
rolled it completely away and no letterbox. I scraped the dirt all
around there, but nothing. My guess is that when the park was
cleaned, it was found and discarded. :( Why they leave that broken
piece of pillar there, if they are cleaning up, I have no idea.

If I'd have checked it a week ago, you wouldn't have had to search
in vain. Sorry about that. Now that I know there are actually people
who are/have been looking for my letterboxes, I will keep closer
tabs on them. :)

to locate, but 1st time I stopped a guy was selling eggs there. I
came back later and another guy was sleeping in his car about 20
yards away.

Oh, about my 'Pencil Me In' letterbox... I will visit it tomorrow
with bug spray, gloves, and a hooked stick to try to take it back
from the fire ants. Wish me luck! ;)

Are you going to replace it? I hope to be down that way later this
month and might have time to go after this box and your other ones.
You can let me know off-list if and when you plan to replace it.
Thanks.
